Learn Together, Grow Together: Group Dance Classes at Bailonga
Experience the energy, community, and joy of learning to dance with others. Our group classes combine expert instruction with the motivation and fun of a shared journey.
The Power of Learning Together
Group dance classes offer a unique learning experience that complements private instruction beautifully. When you learn with others, you tap into the energy, motivation, and social connection that makes dance such a joyful activity. At Bailonga, our group classes welcome dancers of all levels—from complete beginners taking their first steps together, to intermediate dancers refining their skills as a community. We offer group instruction in all five of our dance styles: Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Tango, and Porro.
The benefits of group learning extend far beyond the dance floor. You'll build friendships with people who share your passion for movement and music. You'll gain confidence by practicing with multiple partners, developing the adaptability that makes you a better social dancer. And you'll discover that watching others learn—seeing their breakthroughs and challenges—accelerates your own progress in ways that solo practice cannot.
Whether you're looking for an affordable way to start your dance journey, wanting to supplement your private lessons with regular practice, or simply seeking a fun social activity with like-minded people, group classes provide the perfect environment for growth, connection, and celebration.
What to Expect in Our Group Classes
Our group classes are designed to maximize learning while maintaining the welcoming, supportive atmosphere Bailonga is known for. Groups range from 3 to 15 students. You can self-organize as a small group — for example, 2–3 couples booking together — or join an open session, all in an intimate environment where everyone receives attention and benefits from the shared energy.
Class Structure
Each group class runs 1.5 hours. We offer monthly packages of four classes, ideal for consistent progress. We begin with a warm-up, then cover fundamental concepts, with the majority of time dedicated to practice with individual feedback.
Rotating Partners
One of the greatest advantages of group classes is the opportunity to dance with multiple partners, which develops your leading or following skills and prepares you for real social dancing situations. Partner rotation is standard and done respectfully — however, it is not mandatory. Groups or couples who prefer to stay together throughout the class are welcome to do so.
Skill Levels
We organize classes by experience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). Students on a 10-class package can switch between dance styles—giving you the flexibility to explore salsa, bachata, merengue, tango, or porro within the same package.
Dance is Better Together
Beyond technique and choreography, group classes offer something invaluable: community. Dance has always been a social art form, and learning in a group setting honors that tradition. You'll meet people from diverse backgrounds—locals and international visitors, young professionals and retirees, beginners and experienced dancers—all united by a love of music and movement.
Many of our students find that their group class friends become their regular dance partners at social events, creating a support network that extends beyond the studio. The shared experience of learning something new, celebrating small victories, and occasionally laughing at mistakes creates bonds that often surprise our students with their depth and longevity.
For visitors to Medellín, group classes offer an authentic way to connect with local culture and make friends quickly. For locals, it's an opportunity to meet neighbors, expand your social circle, and participate in a community that celebrates Colombian dance traditions alongside international styles.
Finding the Right Balance
Both group classes and private lessons have their place in a well-rounded dance education, and many of our most successful students utilize both:
Private Lessons Excel At:
- •Personalized attention to your specific challenges
- •Flexible scheduling that fits your availability
- •Rapid skill development tailored to your goals
- •Working on specific techniques or advanced concepts
- •Preparing for performances or special events
Group Classes Excel At:
- •Building social confidence and adaptability
- •More affordable regular practice
- •Learning from watching others
- •Developing leading/following skills with multiple partners
- •Community building and making friends
The Ideal Combination:
Many students find that starting with a few private lessons to build a solid foundation, then joining group classes for regular practice and social connection, creates the perfect learning environment. Private lessons accelerate your initial progress, while group classes keep you practicing, socializing, and improving in a fun, low-pressure setting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to come with a partner for a dance class?
▾
No! You absolutely do not need a partner. If you schedule a private class alone, you will dance with your instructor. Our experienced teachers are skilled at both leading and following, ensuring you get the full learning experience regardless of whether you come solo or with a partner.
I'm a complete beginner — will I be able to keep up?
▾
Absolutely! We welcome complete beginners and love introducing new students to dance. Our instructors break everything down step by step, starting with the fundamentals and building at your own pace. Most students are surprised by how quickly they progress — many see noticeable improvement within just a few classes.
What should I wear to class?
▾
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely is ideal — athletic wear, yoga pants, or casual clothes all work well. For footwear, avoid flip-flops or open sandals. Dance shoes are great if you have them, but clean sneakers or flat-soled shoes work perfectly for beginners.
How long does it take to learn to dance?
▾
It depends on your goals and how often you practice. Most students feel comfortable with the basics of a dance style within 5–10 classes. Regular classes accelerate progress significantly — students who take 2–3 classes per week see dramatic improvement within a month.
Can I switch between different dance styles in a package?
▾
Yes! Our packages allow you to mix and match dance styles. You might take salsa one day and bachata the next — it's entirely up to you. This flexibility lets you explore different rhythms and find what you love most.
How do I schedule my classes?
▾
Just contact us via WhatsApp at +57 300 773 6266 or send us an email. We'll find a time that works for your schedule. We're open Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM and offer flexible scheduling throughout the day.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
▾
We understand that plans change. Please give us at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, and we'll be happy to find you another time. Classes from packages remain valid for 3 months, so you have plenty of flexibility.
I don't speak Spanish — will that be a problem?
▾
Not at all! We work with students from all over the world and have experience teaching in English. Dance is a universal language, and many of our instructors are comfortable communicating in English. You'll feel right at home from your very first class.
Do you offer group classes or only private lessons?
▾
We offer both! Private classes (one-on-one or couples) give you personalised instruction at your own pace, while group classes let you learn in a fun social environment and meet other dancers. Many students enjoy a combination of both.
How long is each class?
▾
Each class is 1 hour long. This is the ideal duration — long enough to make meaningful progress on technique and choreography, but short enough to stay focused and energised throughout.
